No-one said a word as the three of us set off to our first day back at school. Daisy looked like she was going to hurl. Mikey grabbed her hand and she smiled gratefully at him, but the closer we got to school, the slower she walked. As we got closer and started seeing other kids, she took a shaky breath to steel herself, but they saw the bump and the fact that she was with the Way brothers and was holding hands with one of them and started murmuring to each other. Her face reddened and she must have been shaking, because Mikey tightened his grip on her hand.
"I can't do this," she whispered and ran as well as she could back down the road, tears in her eyes. Mikey glanced at me before running after her.
It spread around the school like wildfire but, as with most rumours, no one thought to actually confirm it with anyone involved. At least until they'd had a good stare at me eating my lunch with Frank.
"Oh God, here comes Hollie," Frank warned.
"Who's Hollie?"
"Biggest gossip in our year. She's in biology with Mikey and history with Daisy... or the other way around, I don't know," he shrugged. "What are you going to tell her?"
I shrugged. I hadn't really thought about it. "The truth?"
"Shame, I was hoping for alien abduction pregnancy tales," Frank grinned. I playfully nudged him as a girl marched over.
"Are you Mikey's cousin?" she demanded.
"Brother," I corrected, a little knocked back by her sudden attack.
"Isn't he with Daisy?" I nodded. "Isn't she pregnant?" I nodded again. She looked over her shoulder to her mates as if to say 'see?' and turned back to me, chewing gum. "I heard she walked to school with you two."
"Yeah."
"So did he fuck her last night, then?" she asked.
I blinked in shock. "No! Mikey's a vir-" Frank coughed, kicking me under the table, but it was too late. Hollie's eyes lit up.
"So it's not his baby?" she exclaimed. People listening in at nearby tables fell completely silent. I blushed nervously, looking to Frank for help. He squeezed my hand encouragingly.
"No," I sighed.
"Does he know?" she pressed.
"How could he not know if he's never done it with her?" Frank snorted incredulously.
"Do you know who's it is?" she ignored him.
"Yes."
"Will you tell me?"
"No."
She blinked, shocked. "Just me, go on," she implored.
"No."
"I won't tell anyone!"
"And I'm going to sing with Liza Minelli."
She huffed and marched back to her friends. Frank and I both knew that was far from the end of it.

The midnight falls upon
The city, like a blanket
Of black & blue.
And to lift this strangeness
And coldness, I think quietly
Of you.
The warmer days of your smile,
The breath's ocean currents,
The kisses that came as
Fires, so lovely and strange
& sudden!
The nights of the stormy
Planets, when the atmosphere
Felt dense as an oven's,
Because we were together,
Flaming, foolishly loving!
And now we're physically
Separated, and maybe it is right,
But I still think of you
When the blanket, falls
In the form of the midnight.

Where are you now,
What do you do,
Where have you wandered my quaint little you,
Of all the paths,
From all of our days,
This one was never far from the craze,
It flickered and glowed,
Danced here and there,
But now burns to brightly for me to quite share,
How could it be,
Through too bright light,
I see shadows and darkness grin with delight,
All of my-selves,
We beg for more,
While brain and caring are pushed to the floor.
